Rand Paul vs. Bill Clinton: Does Lewinski Matter?

Those over 30 actually remember the 1990’s and while we remember the great economy and how great things were we also remember how the politics were just as toxic, maybe not as much, as they are today. There was no great armistice between Bill Clinton and, most notably, Newt Gingrich as things got pretty heated back then. However, the young, mostly liberal, crowds either don’t remember that decade or simply don’t know about it.

While there was a willingness to work, Clinton with Newt and vice versa, it was only because Clinton moved to the center-left. Clinton tried for healthcare reform right from the start and failed, he raised taxes, the largest tax hike on seniors in history, and passed the assault weapons ban all of which led to the republican revolution and the republicans contract with America. It is also important to note that during the election when he thought the gay vote was 20% he favored gays in the military, but after he was elected he found out the gay vote was only 10% and switched to “don’t ask, don’t tell”, look it up, Google is free. In short, the Clinton’s are completely political and have one objective, the Clinton’s.

Further evidence of Clinton’s move to the center is his welfare reform efforts, pro business and investment tax policy which led to the economic and, in turn, stock market boom which refueled the economic boom… follow that? You see, Clinton listened to the republicans and dropped capital gains taxes, the tax on investment gains held over 1 year, to 20% from 28%. When you drop capital gains taxes people will invest in equities, the stack market, and the wealthy will invest in start-up companies as the gains are taxed at 20% instead of the higher earned income tax rates. That is smart tax policy and it worked, but mix in a revolution, in this case the internet, and you have a recipe for something special which is exactly what happened. However, good things get overdone and out of control leading to what we now call “bubbles” and the internet bubble popped as we know.

You cannot credit Clinton alone with the booming economy of the 1990’s and ignore the fact that republicans had congress wrapped up. It’s incredulous that anyone can credit the president with only all the good, none of the bad, but ignore the party or dismiss the party that controls congress, that is what liberals do. When congress and the president work together great things can happen, but Clinton got lucky with the internet boom and he knows politics, something Obama knows nothing about. Contrary to liberals belief there is simply no chance Obama will move to the center and he just doesn’t compromise.

Think about it, all the compromises have been republican… defund Obamacare, nope, Obama won and republicans conceded. Lift the debt ceiling, no compromise for Obama, but republicans gave in on higher taxes. I can go on and on. Just because Obama isn’t liberal enough for you liberals doesn’t mean he is not too liberal for conservatives and he is certainly not a centrist, not at all.

Anyhow, as we reminisce about the Clinton era we also forget all the scandals they were involved with and, frankly, there are a lot of questions unresolved. Like how Hillary knew to invest 3 times the Clinton’s net worth in 1979 in beef futures only to make a killing, her first and only trade. White Water and a bunch of other stuff have open questions that will never be answered because people don’t want to know. The one scandal we should be talking about, however, is the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Why? Simple, Clinton lied under oath about it which, to me and the law, is a crime. He had an affair with a young intern in the oval office, while he was working. He often had her do “her thing” while he was on the phone with senators, when Arafat was waiting for him in the Rose Garden and she was a young intern. I don’t care about the affair, we knew what Clinton was with Flowers and others who outed him during the campaign, it is the lying and the complete lapse of judgment he showed.

The lapse of judgment is just so large it cannot be ignored, but Americans do ignore it, why. My theory is that the economy was so good we don’t want to tarnish the memory with salacious details. We also view this as a sexual affair instead of what it really was, an out of control ego maniac who thought, and did, he could get away with anything. If your daughter was Lewinsky would you give the president a pass on this? Certainly Lewinsky had a role in it, but he was the president of the United States, the man with the nukes, the guy who was trying to broker world peace… shouldn’t he be held to a higher standard?

On top of it, not only was his judgment terrible with the affair, he lied about it under oath. It is hard enough to get politicians to tell the truth about anything at all, but I would like to think under oath they would feel compelled to tell the truth. Instead, we get a lesson on what the definition of ‘is’ is, seriously? Not that I am surprised, liberals play that stuff all the time like showing a picture of KKK members burning a cross and in their uniform with a caption of you ‘might’ be a racist… it says MIGHT be a racist, not you are a racist, like there is a difference… I really had this debate with a guy and I still shake my head over it.

So, Rand Paul comes along and brings up Lewinsky again, 17 years later, and people are questioning whether or not that is fair game or not. Of course it is! Look, the comment came out because Hillary Clinton is probably going to run in 2016 which puts Bill back in as First Husband, I guess. In addition, she was up to her eyes in the cover-up of Lewinsky, vast rightwing conspiracy anyone, and lied about knowledge of the affair as well, we all know she knew about it, a wife knows her husband. She also decided to stay with him because it was politically smart for her to do so, is there even love there? I don’t know, only they do, but there is no question they are a political powerhouse together.

Hillary is portrayed as a victim, which drives my wife crazy, even though she was an active participant in coving it up. She stayed even though she was more than capable of leaving him and making her own way in life. She chose to stay with him which doesn’t make her a victim at all, it was her choice to stay. I don’t get how she gets the sympathy vote because she decided to stay with her husband who cheated, repeatedly, on her. She knows about it but stays and that makes people vote for her? It’s mind blowing.

She isn’t a victim at all, she is a political animal doing what is best for her and it has worked. She made out very well, Senator of NY, 2008 presidential candidate, and becoming the secretary of state while writing books, giving speeches and making tens of millions of dollars at it. She is cunning and so is Bill and the last thing we need is another Clinton in the Whitehouse. If she actually gets elected, which she won’t, it will be a sad day for America. Enough with political dynasties they suck and damage our credibility… we actually wonder why other countries laugh at us, well, look at who we elect.

Rand Paul was right to bring up Lewinsky as it exposes the complete lapse of judgment the Clintons have shown in the past. I don’t want the salacious details repeated again instead talk about how it was embarrassing and how the president needs to be using the head on his shoulder, or her shoulders, instead of the other head to think with. Judgment and actions matter. The Clinton’s lack judgment and their actions are beyond comprehension. Bring it all back up again, I say, because that is the only record we really had and maybe, just maybe, people will realize it was the compromises between the parties that led to the booming 1990’s and not one man.
